NEW Project Child Trainings - June 24 & 30
   Project Child continues its mission to provide education for professionals in our community, which sometimes means adapting to circumstances beyond our control, like COVID 19.
   In light of this, we have had to postpone until the fall the training by Cathleen Palm.
   Project Child is now offering two on-line trainings: June 24th and June 30th with Dr. H. Elizabeth Coyle.

     June 24th: Trauma Informed Support for Youth and Families during the Pandemic 
    This session explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children and families who have a previous history of experiencing trauma in their lives. It focuses on three areas that inform our work with those we serve: the cascading effects of trauma on children’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development; the range of traumatic stress reactions to the pandemic that youth and adults may have and its cumulative influence on outcomes; and strategies that address the immediate and long-term needs of families within the context of available community resources.
    Learning Objectives:  (2.5 CECs)  9am-11:30am $35.00  (Both for $65)
      ·   Analyze the impact of trauma on children’s development and behavior through a neuroscientific lens.
       ·   Explain the reasons why the pandemic may have a unique effect on youth and families with a previous history of trauma.
       ·   Describe the recommended trauma-informed parenting approaches and individual coping mechanisms that promote resiliency.
       ·   Identify a range of online and alternative resources to support families given the varied accessibility that exists across communities.
     
     June 30th
: Youth Suicide: Risk Assessment, Prevention and Intervention during the 
 Pandemic

     This session explores the current research on the rising rates of youth suicide in the United States and the impact of COVID-19 on the risk factors associated with suicidal behavior in youth, particularly children exposed to trauma, in foster care, receiving mental health treatment, or who identify as LGBTQ. Participants will learn the role that caregivers, agencies, schools, and communities play in reducing suicide risk factors during the pandemic through implementation of a systems approach and recommended prevention and intervention strategies.

       ·  Describe the myths and facts associated with youth suicide.
     ·  Assess how the pandemic may increase the unique suicide risk correlates for children exposed to trauma, in foster care, receiving mental health treatment, or who identify as LGBTQ.
       ·  Analyze the use of a systems approach in preventing youth suicide.
       ·  Define the protective role that families, agencies, schools, and communities play in preventing youth suicide, particularly throughout the pandemic.
       ·Apply recommended suicide risk assessment, prevention, and treatment approaches.

  Coyle Profile Picture   Dr. Coyle works with schools and human service organizations facilitating trainings on trauma informed practices, resiliency, anger management, mental health, and responding to challenging youth behaviors. She has designed online and classroom training curricula for a variety of organizations throughout Pennsylvania and is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences. She also authored a number of articles and conference papers on adult learning, violence prevention, and responding to challenging behaviors.
